Digital Inclusion, Boundaries & Safety

The Grow Project

Introduction to Digital Inclusion, Boundaries & Safety

At The Grow Project, our Digital Inclusion, Boundaries & Safety programme focuses on empowering individuals with learning disabilities to navigate the digital world and understand the importance of setting boundaries and staying safe in both the online and offline environments. This programme addresses key topics such as online safety, personal boundaries, and awareness of various societal issues like bullying, ADHD, and autism.

Understanding the Digital World Safely

In today’s digital age, it’s essential to have a basic understanding of technology and how to use it safely. Our Digital Inclusion section helps individuals become more comfortable using digital tools while learning the importance of privacy, security, and online etiquette.

Key Areas of Focus:
  • Internet Safety: Learn about the risks of the internet and how to protect personal information, including the importance of strong passwords and secure browsing.
  • Social Media Awareness: Understand how to use social media responsibly, the dangers of oversharing, and how to maintain privacy online.
  • Online Communication: Practice communicating respectfully online, understanding the impact of words and images, and avoiding harmful behaviour such as cyberbullying.
  • Accessing Services: Gain skills in using digital platforms to access important services, such as online banking, healthcare, and educational resources.

The Digital Inclusion section ensures that participants are confident in using technology, while also recognising and avoiding potential risks in the online world.

Setting Boundaries and Protecting Personal Space

A core element of this programme is helping participants understand the importance of setting personal boundaries, both online and offline. Boundaries & Safety are critical for building healthy relationships and protecting oneself from harm.

Key Learning Areas:
  • Awareness of Bullying: Learn how to identify bullying behaviour, both in person and online, and understand the importance of standing up for oneself and others.
  • Stranger Danger: Understand how to stay safe when meeting new people, whether online or in person, and recognise when something doesn’t feel right.
  • Financial Abuse Prevention: Gain knowledge of how to recognise and protect oneself from financial abuse, including scams and manipulative behaviour.
  • Healthy Relationships: Learn the signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships, and how to communicate personal boundaries respectfully.

By exploring these topics, participants develop the skills to recognise, set, and enforce personal boundaries in all areas of their lives.

Supporting Awareness of ADHD, Autism, and Other Conditions

As part of our programme, we also raise awareness of various conditions that can affect individuals’ interactions and experiences in different settings. Understanding the impact of ADHD, autism, and other conditions can foster empathy, improve communication, and help participants better manage their own challenges.

Key Topics Covered:
  • ADHD Awareness: Learn about ADHD, its symptoms, and how to manage impulsivity, distractions, and focus in different environments.
  • Autism Awareness: Gain a deeper understanding of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and how it affects communication, social interaction, and sensory experiences.
  • Building Empathy: Understand the experiences of others with ADHD or autism and develop more supportive and inclusive behaviours.
  • Self-Advocacy: Learn how to advocate for oneself and others, ensuring that needs are communicated effectively and respectfully.

This section helps participants build greater awareness of these conditions, fostering a supportive, inclusive environment where everyone’s needs are understood and respected.
